Year 9 Vocations’ Retreat - June 2024
We began the day with our diversity day Mass, which was an outstanding celebration where we listened to songs, readings in many different languages and from many cultures for example when they sung a Filipino worship song “Masdan”. Moreover, Farther Frankie lead the service and told us how he performed healing miracles to people and told us about them in his homily.
After the celebration of our diverse community, Year 9 took part in a vocational retreat day where each form listened to a guest speaker who inspired us to follow our God given purpose, to serve our community for a better world. Deacon Owen taught us the meaning of vocation which he explained that vocation was a calling from God and that no matter how old we are and no matter how many mistakes we make we can still fulfil our God given purpose. Later we talked to sister Yudith and heard from Sr Ewa about why they became a nun.
Other speakers were Jithin, a seminarian (a student priest), Chris Noonan, a videographer, James Trewby who believes in social justice, Sue Nightingale, a nurse who has met the Pope. Daniella Stephens was inspirational as she shared her faith and love of God.
Furthermore, it inspired us all to follow our dreams and to do a vocation that God calls us to do and to not be forced to have a job that suits not only our needs but our faith and to only follow OUR dreams not others dreams that they say are for us. And to remember to be nice to others.
Overall it was an amazing experience!
