Year 9 Experience - Royal Shakespeare Theatre Trip to Stratford

This week, the whole of Year 9 visited The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon to see the highly acclaimed musical, The Boy In The Dress.

Based on the novel of the same name, by David Walliams, the musical featured songs written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers and is about a boy who enjoys fashion but is reluctant to share this with his family and peers through the fear of being different.

Despite a weather forecast of snow, we were really lucky that the sun came out as we made our way across Stratford, from the coach park, to the theatre.

Armed with sweets for the interval, our students had mixed feelings about what they were going to see, some of them never having been to a theatre before.

As the musical began, everyone soon realised that this was going to be something they were really going to enjoy and remember for the rest of their lives. There was live music of all genres, dancing, fantastic scenery and costumes that glittered under a gigantic glitter ball.

At the end of the performance, there weren’t many of us whose hearts hadn’t been stirred by the moving storyline and we made our way back to school all the richer for having been on a great trip with the rest of our year group.

Praise goes to all of our students who behaved very well and helped make the day enjoyable for each other and for staff too.
