Year 7 Special Assembly

On Friday we had Steve Wright in school to give a talk to our Year 7 students ahead of the 80th anniversary of D Day. His uncle William (Bill) Markleet (age 24) was killed during the D Day landings whilst flying a glider carrying troops and equipment to the beaches. He gave up a desk job to train as a glider pilot and take the highest of risks.

Mr Wright also told the story of Father Patrick McMhon from the Columbon Order who at the outbreak of war was due to go to China as a missionary priest but again chose to join the chaplaincy core and support all faiths on the battlefield. He also died during the Battle of Normandy supporting the welfare of soldiers.

Mr Wright related their courage and ‘intentional’ behaviour to our school virtues.
