to some audiobooks, particularly the ‘Independent Reader’ section, that are available to listen to free of charge. For our older readers, below, are some book recommendations that they might like to explore:
The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan O’Dowd
Ted and Kat take their cousin Salim for a trip on the London Eye but as the ride finishes Salim appears to have disappeared into thin air. Ted has Asperger’s Syndrome and although the book is a mystery story it also gives an insight into Asperger’s Syndrome.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
It is the 74th Hunger Games in a post- apocalyptic North America. Katniss is a survivor and is representing District 12. 1 girl and 1 boy from each of the 24 districts have to fight in a gladiator type futuristic arena while the battle is televised live on reality television.
Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman
The story chronicles the coming-of-age of best friends Sephy Hadley and Callum McGregor. Noughts and Crosses imagines an alternative history that places native African people in a position of power over those of European descent.
Mr Ridgeway
English Teacher
Years 7 and 8 welcomed Spoz, the local poet to STACS for World Book Day
He entertained them with his poetry and rapping, and got some of the students in smaller groups making up their own chocolate raps. It was good to see that lots of the students came into the library to meet Spoz at break and lunch time too, and many bought copies of his books. Thank you to all the students in the poetry sessions who made our visitor feel so welcome!
