Visit to Erdington to meet ‘Little Amal’ the refugee puppet
My aunty wrote a poem about refugees and my granny invited me to come and meet the giant puppet in Erdington during half term. I went with my granny and uncle and it was moving to see the puppet and I was in awe of the size of it. It was moving that it represented the young people who are separated from their families and have to travel through Europe frightened and often alone.
While I was meeting the puppet I bumped into Mrs O’Driscoll and another student from St Thomas Aquinas. They had been looking at the visit of ‘Little Amal’ in their Young Vincentian liturgy group.
My aunty helps refugees and teaches the refugee children literacy through an organisation. She even gave a house to a refugee family so I have grown up mixing with refugees and asylum seekers.
I enjoyed the day as it was quite emotional seeing 100s of people turn up to see and meet a refugee puppet.
