Student Leadership Assemblies
It has been an extraordinarily busy start to the new term for student leadership. In the first full week back, the sixth form leadership team led virtual assemblies across all year groups, educating students on the Black Lives Matter movement. At the end of this assembly, they launched a poster competition which aimed to promote the key messages of the movement around our school community. As of Friday, we had over 50 entries which shows how this topic resonates with the students at St. Thomas Aquinas. The sixth form leadership team are meeting this week to pick the top three winners. Watch this space for announcements of who these are.
At the same time, Head Boy Sam Haynes and Head Girl Karolina Rawdanowicz launched applications for the 2020-21 school council. By the Friday deadline I am pleased to announce that we had a total of 65 entries spanning all year groups - by far the greatest number of applicants in recent years. Mr Eburah and I have had a busy few days reading through all of the applications and picking a shortlist of three boys and three girls in each year to go to a student vote next week.
If you would like to see the manifestos of the students in your year group, please check out the student leadership noticeboard outside of E1, the student leadership section on the school website or check your inbox on Monday morning for an email from Mr Eburah with them attached.
Voting will take place online next week, with the winners being announced when all votes are in and counted. Good luck to the remaining 29 applicants!
