Student Leaders - House and Community Week
The end of the first half term was busier than ever for student leadership at STACS, with the first official meeting of the new Student Council. To maintain social distancing and to ensure no mixing of different year group bubbles, it was a very surreal first meeting, with the new team only being able to meet virtually on Microsoft Teams. Despite the circumstances, the reps still had a great deal to do during the week, visiting every form in their year group to generate ideas that will feed into their work over this new half term.
The theme for the first House and Community week was mental health - a particularly important issue in the current climate. The student council feel that their work this half term needs to be to promote positive mental health across all members of the school community. As a result of the fantastic feedback generated from form discussions, the council will be focussing their efforts on two main areas. Firstly, to look at opportunities to increase praise and appreciation across our school. Secondly, to launch the first student-led house competition of the year, with a theme to make people smile. There will be more on this to follow, so keep your eyes peeled for any exciting developments in the upcoming weeks.
I personally want to give a massive thank you to the student council reps who, at very short notice, did a great job at getting around the form groups and generating very positive discussions. They have hit the ground running in their new roles and I am really excited to help them put some of their great ideas into practice.
