School Production of Roald Dahl's Matilda JR - 11th July

Where do you start after one of the most memorable events of the school year! There are a lot of Aquinas students, Primary children and adults that all played their part brilliantly. The Performing Arts Faculty would like to thank all the talented students in the cast, the technical team and all the students who have helped out behind the scenes. An extra special thank you to the Lumen Christi MAC Primary children who added so much to Thursday’s evening performance and sang their hearts out. It is difficult to express the impact a school production has on the whole School community. After watching the football last Saturday and on Wednesday, it feels very similar to watching the England team! Students make a huge commitment and give up so much of their own time. They have to trust their teachers and work with students in different Year groups. They begin by working in a ‘new team’ but by the end, they have an unbreakable bond and have helped to make some lifelong memories. They show resilience and determination to remember lines, lyrics and, performance in front of adults and their peers. But like an England football match, when the moment finally arrives, it is just, wow! You can feel something very special that you cannot put into words. Some school days come and go but children will talk about this moment with their own children and grandchildren. “Do you remember when England scored five penalties?” … “In 2024, I was in my school production of ‘Matilda!” We owe a huge amount of thanks to the Primary teachers from our Lumen Christi Primary Schools who helped to shape the Aquinas students, mould their talents and to give them confidence to perform. Some of the principal cast are: Tino and Tyler - St. Paul’s Catholic Primary School; Elsie, Kacper, Meryll, Mary and Saoirse - St. John Fisher Catholic Primary School; Ella, Luke and Harry - St. Columba’s Primary School; Lola - West Heath Primary School; Bobby - St. Peter’s RC Junior and Infant School, Kayla - Colmers Farm Primary School; Jaidon and Nathan - Wychall Primary School; Josh - St. Laurence Church Junior School; Ellie-Mae - Cofton Primary School; Khaya - Rednal Hill Primary School; Maisie and Millie - St. Brigid’s Catholic Primary School; - Imogen and Kai - St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. The Performing Arts Faculty would like to thank a few other colleagues and students working behind the scenes to make up this year’s ‘Production Team’. Mrs O’ Driscoll for leading the Primary School rehearsals, Kerrey Warr for the choreography; Miss Davidson and Mr Stephenson for props; Isaac Pepper for leading the Technical Team; Reece Christie for support at rehearsals and backstage; Mrs Taylor for coordinating the ticket sales, Mr Nolan and Mr Wood for photography and website; Miss Baker, Mrs McGingley and Mrs Williamson for organising the refreshments; Mrs Devlin for organsing the Primary School rehearsals, Mrs Gay and Mr Vince for organising the rehearsal schedule; Vic, Dean and Dylan for their continuous support setting up the Sports Hall and staging; and to all the colleagues who helped with supervising the cast. Final thanks from Mrs Johnson: A million thanks to Miss Mortimer and Mrs Pepper for your hard work, vision and for everything you have done! All students should be proud of what they have achieved. I am sure you will agree, what an amazing 2024 school production,. Thank you for taking part!
