Live Stream Mass

This has been a term like no other and that includes how we celebrated Mass today. We were delighted when Canon David kindly offered to come and celebrate Mass for us to mark the end of what has been a very unusual period of time. We had so much to pray for as a school community – for the generosity of our community and those who have been extremely ill, as well as those who have died.

We also prayed for the students who have left us and wished them well in their new chapter.

Nicole (6th) and Aidan (8BO) lead the background music which enhanced the service. Unusually we weren’t allowed to sing and we all sat in Mass wearing masks (which again was a strange experience for many). The IT team did a great job live-streaming the Mass with the help of Bruno and his team. Mrs Ulmkalns wrote and read a beautiful poem to begin Mass called ‘Breathe’. It was emotional as we remember those who have had Covid 19.

There were nearly 30 members of staff who came for the socially-distanced Mass along with a small group of students who sat among us. Casey (Yr 7) read the first reading and Mrs O’Brien read the psalm and Alleluia.

At communion we listened to and watched the UK Blessing that Mrs Johnson and Mr Stevens collated over lockdown. The words ‘The Lord Bless you and keep you’ were a great way to send us off for the Summer as Mr Martin also wished us a good holiday and said it is the Lord who encourages us to take a break and rest.

The teachers’ Tik Tok dances at the end summed up what many families have been doing over lockdown.

God Bless

It was great to see the main hall full to its new ‘socially distanced’ capacity earlier today. Although it was very strange to be in mask and gloves, I am very glad we did it. Thank you Anna for the idea and for making it happen today. I know your efforts throughout this period writing our daily reflections and weekly prayer services have been appreciated by many.

We knew not everybody could be there today. I believe that the streaming worked very well though and we will have the sound sorted for September. We owe a debt of thanks to our ICT Team who were ably supported by Bruno Ulmkalns!
