Health and Social Care Community Research Project

On Friday 15th March, 20 of our Health and Social students, along with students from Handsworth, and George Dixon Academy presented the findings of their Community research project. This project was in collaboration with the Canal Project and Power up Project as well as BWCH.

The panel of experts included the Chief Executive of Birmingham Women’s and Children's Hospital,  NHS consultants, NHS England, Assistant Director of Public Health and Birmingham City Council. Dr Guddi Singh, a NHS paediatrician and advocate for young people was also on the panel.

The students presentations were based on research around:

Group One and Two: Asthma awareness

Group Three: Male mental health

Group Four: Child mental health in relation to cultures and stereotypes

Group Five: Access to health care/mental health support for yp who are neurodivergent or LGBTQ

Their research could lead to great change within the city!

Our students delivered their presentations with passion and confidence. I am really proud of them all!!

As a result, our students have been invited to share their presentations with NHS England and have been offered the opportunity to attend the National Paediatrician Conference on the 27th March.

Our students were also given the opportunity to ask questions to the panel and challenge current practices for young people accessing health care as well as a tour of the hospital.
