Arts Award Programme students visit the MAC

On Thursday, we spent the day at the mac in Edgbaston. we had a great time looking at different forms of art such as paintings, photography, music, sculptures and mosaics. We visited two exhibitions, one centred around inclusive arts for children with special educational needs with mediums such as inclusive music for non verbal children. In the second exhibition it was mostly themed around elan valley, a dam used to transport water to Birmingham since 1904.

For me, the highlight of the trip was film making from Longwill school for the deaf. It was mostly acting with greenscreens, but they finished it off with an interview on the struggles of being deaf. This was my favourite and also the most moving as it really highlighted how hard it is to communicate while being a part of the deaf community. It shed light on the fact that sign language is not nearly as common as it should be and about how we need to as a society to be more considerate and learn sign language.

Overall, I had an amazing experience and I believe that everyone should make time to visit the mac.
