Arete Outdoor Education Trip – Snowdonia

On Monday 29th January, we took 27 adventurous year 9 students to the depths of North Wales for the week.  The Welsh coach company delivered us to Llanrug in good time (with Miss Gannon meeting us at Chester services).  We experienced the stunning scenery as we approached the mountains, however as we drove into the Snowdonian climate, the rain clouds descended and the weather became very wet and didn’t seem stop for a few days, however, we arrived safe and sound to be whisked straight out for some bouldering, which our students loved and excelled at without a hint of worry over the weather.

The whole week was full of some rain, some glorious sunshine (which was a surprise for the beginning of February!), adventures and challenging journeys up Tyrfan mountain, waterfalls, though pitch black slate mines, and down the mile wide estuary and in the sea at Anglesey.  The students were wonderful and they overcame fears and problem solved their way out of some difficult situations, saw some wild mountain goats, seals, got very wet in Welsh mountain rain and Emily’s group even had a taste of fresh mountain filtered mineral water!

Even though we returned exhausted from all the activity, we all wished we could have stayed an extra few days!

Well done to all the students that attended, you were fantastic and a huge thank you to Mr Matthews and Miss Gannon for accompanying me and making the week even more enjoyable for our students.
