ARETE OUTDOOR EDUCATION TRIP – SNOWDONIA, WALES

On Monday 21st March, we took 38 adventurous year 9 students to the depths of Wales for the week. The Welsh coach company delivered us to Llanrug in good time (even though the M5 was closed from Frankley, so we had a slight de-tour around Birmingham!). On the beautifully sunny journey, we got to experience the stunning scenery as we approached the mountains, and arrived safe and sound to be whisked straight out for some rock climbing in the beautiful sunshine.

The whole week was full of glorious sunshine, adventures and challenging journeys up Tyrfan mountain, waterfalls, though pitch black slate mines, down the mile wide estuary and in the sea at Anglesey. The students were wonderful and they overcame fears and problem solved their way out of some difficult situations, saw lots of lambs, got very wet in the ice cold spring sea water and Rod’s group even encountered wild mountain goats whilst climbing!

Even though we returned exhausted from all the activity and all the early morning spring runs (thank you Adam), we all wished we could have stayed an extra week!

Well done to all the students that attended, you were fantastic and a huge thank you to Mr Tibbitts and Miss Kelly for accompanying me and making the task of getting the students off to sleep every night a breeze!
