Connecting with God

Week Beginning 15th March

Tuesday 16th March

WELCOME: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This week our theme is darkness into light

WORD: Luke 16:25-31

‘The rich man replied, “Father, I beg you then to send Lazarus to my father’s house, since I have five brothers, to give them warning so that they do not come to this place of torment too.” “They have Moses and the prophets,” said Abraham “let them listen to them.” “Ah no, father Abraham,” said the rich man “but if someone comes to them from the dead, they will repent.” Then Abraham said to him, “If they will not listen either to Moses or to the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone should rise from the dead.”’

WORSHIP: Many children have developed a strong sense of fairness, of justice. Among the familiar refrains of childhood is “that’s not fair.” Let us pray that we can build upon this sense of justice to teach about how God desires that all share in the goods of our world. In particular, God calls upon those who have material possessions to share from this wealth with those who are in need. Let us discover that our value in the eyes of God is not based upon our material possessions. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

WITNESS: Even small gestures remind us of the pain of others. To offer some food to someone hungry, to pay for a burger or a breakfast, to volunteer in food centres. To talk with hungry people and treat them with dignity. This helps us feel their feelings. Without that we can pass by, and the dogs were kinder to Lazarus than many of his own people. We do not need anyone back from the dead to remind us – we have Jesus, and the poor right on our doorsteps. The voice of the poor calling for help here and elsewhere is the cry of Jesus in the world.

Monday 15th March

WELCOME: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This week our theme is darkness into light

WORD:

In the beginning was the Word:

The Word was with God

And the Word was God.

Through him all things came to be.

All that came to be had life in him

And that light was the light of men,

A light that shines in the dark,

A light that darkness could not overpower (Jn 1:1-5)

And elsewhere we read:

I am the light of the world;

Anyone who follows me will not be walking in the dark;

He will have the light of life. (Jn 7:42)

WORSHIP: On the first day of creation, God flooded the heavens and the earth with divine radiance by uttering the mighty words: “Let there be light”. No matter how dark things may seem, let us remind ourselves that darkness can never overpower light. We turn to Christ, the light of the world.

WITNESS: If we follow the light of Christ we are privileged to be brought on the same journey in the safety of His companionship. Let us show light today through acts of kindness to others no matter how small and may we see the good in others.
