The School Curriculum

Our aim is to ensure that every pupil achieves his or her maximum potential.

All pupils follow a programme that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum

The Grouping of Pupils

As pupils progress through the school, they will be placed in a variety of teaching groups according to their ability and the needs of individual faculties. In Year 7, most lessons take place in mixed-ability groups, although there is setting in Mathematics and the least able are taught in smaller groups for English. In Year 8, there is further setting in a number of subjects and as pupils progress, there is greater emphasis in grouping according to ability.

Ages 11-14 (Key Stage 3)

All pupils follow courses in Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology, Art, Drama, French, Geography, History, Music, Technology and Physical Education.

Ages 14-16 (Key Stage 4)

All pupils study a core programme of Religious Education, English, Maths, Science, a Modern Foreign Language, Information and Communication Technology and Physical Education. In addition, pupils choose up to three additional subjects from a wide range of options. Some pupils choose to follow vocational courses in Art and Design, Information Technology and Health and Social Care. Nearly all pupils are expected to achieve eight or nine GCSE passes. All pupils in Year 10 have two weeks of Work Experience. The school has links with Further Education institutes and certain pupils are encouraged to take advantage of a range of vocational courses.

Specialist Status

As a Specialist Maths and Computing College we will continue to develop our close links with our primary feeder schools and our partner secondary school. We will be extending our links with other groups within our local community including our parents, other adult groups and local business.
