News from the Maths Faculty

Working with The University of Birmingham

Sarah Bollard has been visiting us from Birmingham University, on Monday Period 1 and Friday Period 5. Her brief has been to work with 10 set 1. Sarah has been supporting pupils identified as gifted mathematically.  She has been looking at work with these pupils, within the structure of the lesson, and developing their understanding and thought processes.

Honing their Skills

Pupils targeted A* in Year 11are being given the opportunity to have extra practice at stage 10 material. Mr Hindley will be teaching them in after school sessions until the exam in June.

Maths Club

Following the success last year of pupils in the National Cipher Challenge, this opportunity was again extended to top sets in year 9 and 10. Two teams from year 10 ended up taking part. Although the competition was run last term, pupils still come after school to look at logical puzzles and maths games.

It is hoped these year 10 pupils will be involved in a maths club for year 7 in the summer term.
