The Curriculum
Students in Year 9 follow one of two courses. Sets 1 – 4 will begin the Graduated Assessment GCSE course by studying towards the first of 3 modules which will be examined in June. Table 1 below indicates the module being studied for each of these sets. Sets 5-7 will follow a Core course and set 8, a Support course, based on the Medium Term Plans provided by the BGfL. These courses build towards the work required to gain either a level 5 or level 6 in the SATs exams. From spring half term all Year 9 maths sets will be working towards their SATs exams. Details of which tier will be sat by each set are given in table 2 below.

Setting
At the end of year 8, test results are analysed and, following a consultation process with the Science Faculty, the pupils are put into ability based sets. As the pupils are set across the whole year group it allows us to “fast track” the higher level ability pupils and also allows us to give extra support to the less able, who work in smaller groups. There are 8 sets, numbered from 1 to 8, with set 1 being the most able students.
Homework
Students in year 9 should expect to receive at least one piece of homework per week and often two, particularly in the higher sets.
Additional Resources
Support work for the SATs exams can be found on the mymaths website athttp://www.mymaths.co.uk/ . The username and password for access to the website can be found on posters throughout the school. Students in sets 6-8 should be using the ‘Four Boosters’ in the Booster Packs section of the website. Students in sets 3-5 should be using the ‘Six Boosters’ section.
