About the Faculty
The Mathematics Faculty is a caring a committed team of staff who teach the full ability range from year 7 to Advanced levels. We have high expectations of all students and provide both fast track opportunities for the mathematically gifted and a supportive environment for those who find mathematics difficult. We also have strong links with our partner primary school co-ordinators to whom we offer specialist support and work with collaboratively to improve teaching and learning at key stage 2 and smooth transition from year 6 to year 7.
The Mathematics Faculty is located on the ground floor of the Newman Building . The Faculty consists of 6 classrooms each with interactive whiteboard facilities, and one maths computer room with networked computers and interactive whiteboard.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9)
At KS3 all students follow a structured mathematics curriculum which covers all of the requirements of the National Curriculum. Students are set by ability within the first term of year 7 and regular assessments are made throughout years 7, 8 and 9 to monitor progress. Our most able students in year 9 are fast tracked and begin the GCSE mathematics course at the start of the year.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 – 11)
In years 10 and 11 all students follow the OCR Graduated Assessment Mathematics GCSE course. For students starting year 10 in September 2007, this course will comprise of 3 modular exams (sat periodically through year 10 and 11) of increasing difficulty followed by a terminal exam in the summer of year 11. Some students have the additional opportunity of studying GCSE Statistics in year 10 or 11.
Key Stage 5 (Post -16)
Sixth form students are able to study AS and A2 Mathematics within school but also have the opportunity to study Further Mathematics as part of the Further Maths network..
