About the Faculty
The Aquinas Resource Centre, known as the ARC, is situated on the lower floor of the Newman Building.
The ARC has recently been extensively refurbished and provides a comfortable, attractive and friendly environment in which all pupils can work. Additional shelving capacity allows our book stock to continue growing in order to accommodate the needs of the curriculum following our success in becoming a Specialist School.
A newly appointed full-time professional librarian together with a full-time assistant oversee the growth and management of the ARC, in order to ensure it reflects all curriculum areas and to provide access throughout the school day. The ARC is open before school from 8am and after school until 4.30pm for homework, research, reading and after-school activities. Our commitment to encouraging independent learning as a lifelong skill is evident in the programme of library induction and library research projects undertaken by all pupils. |
Resources & Facilities
|
Laptop computers provide Internet and School Network access to all pupils. Sixth Formers have their own special collection of study materials. In addition, the range of newspapers and magazines is growing and now represents a broad range of subject areas, with pupil’s own interests and recommendations playing a part in their selection.
The ARC is also the place where students buy stationery and art materials, and we loan a variety of audio-visual equipment, advising on its use as needed. A photocopier and laminator are available for use. The careers service, Connexions, maintains a resource of careers information here and uses the ARC as its base in school.
