Athletics
South Birmingham Schools Trials:

We took a select group of students to the South Birmingham Schools Athletics Trials on Wednesday 22nd May at Abbey Stadium Redditch.  It is a fiercely contested event with the top two from each school year group  for each event going through to represent South Birmingham Schools at West Midlands Championships on Saturday 8th June.  We have 3 successful athletes who qualified; Maisie for 300m and High Jump, Mya for Long Jump and Daniel for 100m and relay. If they do well at the West Midlands Championships, they will then go on to represent West Midlands Schools at the English Schools Athletics competition in July.

Well done and good luck for Saturday!

Kings Norton and District Athletics League (Girls) – Thursday 23rd May

We were invited this year to join and compete in the Kings Norton and District Athletics League (KNDAL) alongside King Edwards Five Ways, King Edwards Edgbaston and Turves Green Girls School.

We took a team of 4 from each year group 7-9 ( two teams from year 8), who all individually competed in 100m, Long Jump, Shot Put and finally a 4 x 100m relay.

The teams did really well, all placing in 3rd place, however we also had some stand out performances which resulted in medal places in some events;

Year 7:
Marisha – Gold Shot Put (6.50m) and 1st place year 7 girl overall
Rhea – Silver 100m (12.59 sec)

Year 8:

Milijana – Silver Shot Put (6.95m)
Tenaya – Bronze 100m (12.11 sec)

Year 9:

Maisie – Gold Long Jump (3.89m), Silver Shot Put (8.80m) and Bronze 100m (12.27 sec) – and 1st place year 9 girls overall

We have plenty of athletics competitions still to come this half term including Super 6’s, South Birmingham Cup and KNDAL.  If any students are interested, please attend athletics club on Thursdays after school.

Emilia’s Skiing Success Story

Emilia has had a fantastic ski season this year.  She has been working hard, spending many evenings, weekends and holidays away training and also making sure she is keeping up with her school work on top of her heavy training schedule.  We are very proud of Emilia, of what she has achieved and the role model that she is for other students.

On the 11th May 2019 Emilia came 1st in her age category in the Great Britain Race (Snow) and on the 18th May 2019 she came 1st in her age category in the Midland Club National Race (Dry slope, which is attended by skiers from all over Britain).

I am also absolutely delighted to tell you that Emilia represented St Thomas Aquinas School on Monday 3rd June in the British Schools Championships and her combined race times resulted in her being the fastest girl on the slope! She also gave the men a run for their money and was only beaten by 4 out of 70!!

As a result, she has been selected by the British Schools Squad to represent St Thomas Aquinas across the UK and internationally.

We are so proud of Emilia and so excited for her to be representing STACS at a National and International Level.

Well done, Emilia, and good luck!
