Year 11 Leavers' Mass

On Friday afternoon, Year 11 gathered in the Main Hall to celebrate their Leavers' Mass. The mass itself was lovely and a fitting one to see this wonderful year group into their GCSE exams which begin on Monday. Fr. Cecil shared some words of wisdom in his sermon, reminding students to be themselves and to make a difference. Students read and contributed perfectly. We were joined by a Year 7 choir organised by the Music Department, and Year 11 were treated to a song from them. Thanks to: Mrs. O'Driscoll, our Lay Chaplain; all the singers, led by Mrs. Bentley and Mrs. Johnson; the readers; Mr. Wood and Mr. Nolan for the tech. support; students in the opening procession; helpers with the display; altar servers; Dee, for her refreshments and, of course, Fr. Cecil. It was a pleasure to welcome so many parents to our mass today as well.

After the mass, we were treated to a music performance from Sophie Joy, singing 'How Far I'll Go' before the vocal group performed 'Blinded By Your Grace' (Thank you so much, Joy, Sophie, Logan, Nicole, Amber, Emily, Casey, Elizabeth & Jermaine!). We then enjoyed a video capturing some of the moments the year group have enjoyed over the last 5 years. Finally Ria and Chloe said some very kind words, making me very emotional! (Thanks girls!)

Being Head of Year 11 has been a challenge and a reward - but I have loved every minute of it. This is an amazing year group and I'm sure they will continue to make us proud. I am certain that the leaders of tomorrow are among these young men and women, and they have been helped in their journey by so many adults at St. Thomas Aquinas. Particular thanks though to the Year 11 tutor team: Mr Howes, Mrs Tierney, Mr Eburah, Miss Radinez, Miss Moran, Mr Smylie, Miss Brookes, Mrs Tedcastle, Mr Chapman, Mrs Tipper & Mr Adams. In addition, Year 11 have been supported by Mrs Ryan, our learning mentor/pastoral support and Mrs. Linehan who works tirelessly to get the best out of this fantastic group of young adults.

Thanks for all the kind words, flowers and gifts. It has been such a pleasure working with these young people, most days, it didn't feel like work at all! Year 11 - this is the start of you making your dreams come true. As Peter Pan said - 'all it takes is Faith, Trust and a little Pixie Dust!'

God bless
Mrs Lavelle - Head of Year 11
