Mission Project 2019

We represented the Year 9s at the St Thomas Aquinas for a Catholic event run by the Catholic Youth Service and The Columban’s.  Mrs Crozier accompanied us.

We didn’t really know what to expect as we set off to Bishop Ullathorne School, Coventry.  We were warmly welcomed and were happy to see lots of other Year 9 children from other schools in the Diocese.

After an icebreaker session, we were split into groups.  We Skyped a lady in Fili who is a lay- Missionary and we could ask her questions about her job and her life.

In the afternoon, we learnt about social justice in our society – this included the danger of a single story – a girl from Nigeria spoke of studying in the UK and what perceptions people had about her life growing up in Nigeria.  She said most of them were wrong!

Now we have a challenge to go and visit a refugee place in Birmingham to ask questions and to understand more about their refugee’s situation and what brought them to Birmingham.

We will share our findings at school and then move onto social actions at the end of the year.

It was a brilliant day!
