Two students make their Confirmation at St Brigid's Easter Vigil Mass

It was with great delight that two students approached me at the beginning of the academic year – one asking to be baptised and to be received into the Catholic Church and the other to make his Confirmation.

Each week they gave up their break time to attend a ‘Journey in Faith’ session where they explored more about the Catholic faith and learnt about the Sacraments.  Hannah’s friends, who were already Catholic, attended these sessions too and they helped answer questions about being a Catholic and talked about different ways to pray.

Because of their dedication and commitment, Fr Cecil asked if they would come to the Easter Vigil at St Brigid’s to be received into the Catholic Church and make their Confirmation.  Hannah chose St Anne and Jeremiah chose St Anthony as their Confirmation saint names.  It was moving to watch Hannah being baptised, with Kate (Year 11) as her sponsor and then both candidates received the Holy Oil as they made their Confirmation.  Hannah also received the Eucharist for the first time.

Although the service was over 2 hours long, there were many students from Aquinas who came to the Easter Vigil to support them, along with 3 members of staff and their families.

It was a truly joyful occasion and I was proud of Jeremiah and Hannah.   Welcome to the Catholic family!  Please pray for these students as they continue on their journey of faith.
