KS4 Trip to Birmingham Women’s Hospital

On Monday 2nd July, ten Year 9 & 8 students visited the Women’s Hospital as part of the NHS Trust Group Led Volunteering for young people aged 10-16.  The session we were allocated was Hypnotherapy during labour.  A classroom based session was offered first which covered breathing techniques and anxiety; it was very useful for students to be able to apply this to themselves and their future studies and exams.  Students watched a video celebrating 70 years of the NHS.  During the visit the students had a tour of the Birthing Centre and the Delivery Suite, where cross infection and professionalism were discussed.  The highlight of the visit was a tour of the neo natal unit. It was a privilege to observe the outstanding care being delivered to premature babies and their families.  A massive thank you to Sister Kookie Salt who delivered our session and arranged the tours with her colleagues.

Thanks to Mrs Ryan and Mr Jaep without whose support the visit could not have happened.
