Women’s World Cup Football Qualifiers at the Bescot Stadium

On Friday 24th November a group of 21 girls, Mr Nolan, Mr Pickard and I went to watch the Women’s World Cup Football Qualifiers - England vs Bosnia and Herzegovina at Bescot Stadium.  We had a nightmare journey, getting stuck in standstill traffic for over 1 hour and 30 minutes, 1 mile from the ground itself, but eventually made it in time to see the second half and 3 of the 4 goals being scored. The atmosphere inside the ground was electric, with 10,000 fans cheering on the home team to a 4-0 win. Captain Steph Houghton scored twice, adding a 54th-minute free-kick to her 19th-minute headed opener.  Nikita Parris headed home the second from Toni Duggan's cross 42 seconds after the break, while Fran Kirby's penalty completed the scoring late on, with the whole team thanking the crowd for giving them the extra 10-15%.  Good luck to the Lionesses as they progress through and hopefully we will see them be successful in the World Cup in France 2019.
