ICC Champions Trophy at Edgbaston

On Wednesday 7th June, 24 students accompanied 6 members of staff to watch the number 1 cricket team in the world, South Africa, take on Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy. On arrival, the sun was shining and the stands were already packed with plenty of vocal support for the Pakistan team, although we watched South Africa settle comfortably with the bat. However, regular Pakistan wickets put them on top and they restricted a formidable batting line up to 219/8 off 50 overs. Pakistan continued to impress with the bat, getting off to a quick start to their innings, to the delight of their passionate supporters, and some of our own students who had clearly been won over! However, with the game finely balanced, the unpredictable British summer weather took a turn for the worse and with rain pouring, play was forced to finish early and we headed for home. Pakistan were eventually declared winners on the Duckworth Lewis Method, a surprise result in the competition!

Well done to all students for conducting themselves brilliantly over the day, and thanks to Mrs Tierney, Miss Jones, Mr Pickard, Mr Howes and Mr Bennett for helping with the trip!
