Under 16 Birmingham Cup Final

STACS 2 (Williams, Okafor), Tudor Grange 3
MOM: Miracle Okafor

The Year 11 football team travelled to Holyfield Sports Ground in Erdington in high spirits but fell just short in a superb final. Reigning champions Tudor Grange started the game on the front foot and deservedly took the lead after 15 minutes as STACS struggled to get a foothold in the game. However, as the nerves settled and confidence grew, STACS began to take the initiative with Luke Black, Sam Williams and Jack Shields all forcing the keeper into good saves. However, Tudor Grange scored another before half time on the break with an excellent 20 yard finish which gave STACS an uphill task in the second half.

After the break, STACS continued to press, knowing the next goal would be crucial, but it went against them as Tudor Grange took a 3-0 lead after a defensive mix up. With the game looking lost, STACS could have given up, but their “never say die” attitude saw them continue to create the better chances, with Shields and Williams both going close, before at last Miracle Okafor's brilliant first time finish from Connor High's cross gave STACS a lifeline with 20 minutes left. Ten minutes later, the comeback looked to be on as Williams collected Shields' ball into the box, turned and finished powerfully! With full time approaching, STACS continued to play attacking, high tempo football, but as a couple of half chances went begging, time was running out and eventually it proved too much to pull back the deficit.

The boys were commended at the presentation for the spirit, attitude and grace that they showed in defeat, in what was a pulsating game of football. They can be very proud of their achievements over the season and have been a credit to the school all year.
