Family Mass

On Tuesday 21st March at 7.00pm over 140 people came together for our termly family Mass. Though it was a celebration, we also remembered with great sadness our member of staff, Wilhelmina Burdon who died the previous evening after a short illness.  Mass was in Lent, when we traditionally think about fasting, praying and alms giving, the theme for the Mass was ‘giving’.  A number of students were nominated by their form tutors as being really active in supporting charity work in school.  These students and their families were invited to the Mass to thank them for all they do and 40 students and their families accepted the invitation to attend.

At the start of Mass there was a student procession of the logos of the charities that we are raising money for during this Lent and they were placed on a display. Other students did the readings, bidding prayers, offertory procession and sang in the choir. During Mass Fr. Emmanuel spoke about celebrating the students’ and their families’ generosity and forgiving others without bearing grudges.

In addition, we were delighted to see some new faces, and warmly welcomed some of our Year 6 pupils who are starting at our school in September.

The beautiful music by the choir and musicians, lead by Mrs Bentley and Mrs Johnson enhanced the Mass.

Following Mass, Miss Madden said that seeing the names of all the charities we are raising money for in school made the work the charities do seem very real and encouraged all the students to continue to work hard to help them.  She also mentioned the wonderful fundraising done for the Mizen family who are promoting peace after the death of their son Jimmy.

At the end of the evening, students were given an Easter Egg in recognition of all the fundraising work they do.

To all the students and staff who freely give their time and make a real contribution to helping support our charity collections - THANK YOU.
