Level 3 Turkish Airlines Birmingham School Games

Following on from the Level 2 qualifier at Shenley Academy three weeks before, the Year 8 and 9 boys STACS softball team took part in the Level 3 Turkish Airlines Birmingham School Games at King Edward’s Girls’ School in Edgbaston on Thursday 7th July 2016. After the opening ceremony, students were led to the softball pitches where we were in a league with 6 other schools who qualified for the finals. Our start was slow, losing our first two games by very narrow margins; however, following a last gasp win in our third game, we never looked back, winning the rest of the fixtures. Our efforts meant that we finished third in the city overall, losing on points difference to 2nd place Kings Norton Boys and by 1 point in the league to Shenley Academy who finished 1st. So close to becoming champions, but finishing with a bronze medal in only our second ever tournament was a fantastic achievement. A special mention to Nathaniel Taylor-Hudson and Ryan Makuzva, who demonstrated their unbelievable batting skills when needed most!
