Year 13 Leavers Mass

On Friday 27th May, Year 13 celebrated their final Mass with Father Emmanuel, with staff and parents. It was a lovely, reflective occasion with students leading the singing and readings. The opening procession reflected their seven years at St Thomas Aquinas, with a photo montage of the students throughout their time here. Olivia Young and Benedict Tibbits led a beautiful Communion reflection which earned them a round of applause!

Year 13 then passed on a candle - The Light of Faith - to the current year 7s represented by Daniel Mulhern and Kizzy O’Neill.  Year 7 responded with a beautifully sung blessing, "May your life in this world be a happy one", accompanied by Mr Smith on the guitar; it was a very emotional moment.

Ethan Kiely and Amelia Mulhern (our Head Boy and Head Girl) gave a touching and amusing speech at the end of the Mass. They spoke about their time at Aquinas and thanked Miss Madden, Mr Martin, Mr Harrison and Mrs Davies, and their tutors Mrs Bell, Mr Docherty, Mrs Simpson, Mrs Baker, Mrs Clarke, Miss Jones, Mr Wesbury, Mrs Lavin and Mr Ridgeway and presented them with thank you gifts.  They then watched a short movie of photographs taken since their entry into the school in Year 7 and a montage by Olivia Young.

After Mass, we went out into the sunshine for the year group photograph after which the students enjoyed pizza and wedges and ‘fizzy pop’ lovingly prepared by Mrs McGinley and Mrs Doyle and reminisced with their teachers. Miss Jones made a beautiful cake which Amelia and Ethan cut together. Year 13 would like to pass on their thanks to all staff, past and present, who have supported them over their seven years at Aquinas, and prepared them so well for their lives ahead.

We look forward to their Leavers’ Ball on 1st July and their results day in August.

Mrs Davies
Head of Year 13
