Year 13 Leavers Mass

On Friday 22 May, Year 13 celebrated their final Mass together with staff and parents. It was a lovely, reflective occasion with students leading the singing and readings. The opening procession reflected their seven years at St Thomas Aquinas, with a photo montage of the students throughout their time here.

Year 13 then passed on a candle - The Light of Faith - to the current year 7s represented by Alex Byrne and Abbie Pettifer.  Year 7 responded with a beautifully sung blessing "May your life in this world be a happy one"; it was a very emotional moment.

Gemma Baker and John Tibbits (our Head Boy and Head Girl) gave a wonderful speech at the end of the mass. They spoke about their time at Aquinas and thanked Miss Madden, Mr Martin, Mrs James, and their tutors Mrs Bell, Mr Docherty, Mrs Simpson, Ms Clarke and Mr Hindley. They then watched a short movie of photographs taken since their entry into the school in Year 7 – they hadn’t changed a bit!!

After Mass, we went out into the sunshine for the year group photograph after which the students enjoyed a buffet and reminisced with their teachers. Year 13 would like to pass on their thanks to all staff, past and present, who have supported them over their seven years at Aquinas, and prepared them so well for their lives ahead.

We look forward to their Leavers’ Ball at the end of June and their results day in August.

Mrs James
Head of Year 13
