MFL Primary Event

On Thursday 21 May we were delighted to welcome children from five of our local primary schools to St Thomas Aquinas School for a French role-play competition. The children had been planning and practising with their teachers for several weeks and they performed with confidence and style. Each group presented a role-play set in a café and the customers found plenty to complain about, from poor table manners to a vastly inflated bill. In one play there was a sword fight and in another a young customer did his best to order a glass of beer! We were really impressed with the complex language, careful pronunciation and acting skills shown by all of the children. After much deliberation the trophy was awarded to Alice, Ava, Jacques and Emily from St Mary’s School. Congratulations to them and also to the children from St Brigid’s, St John Fisher, St Joseph’s and St Laurence School.

I would also like to mention some of our own students from Year 7 and 8 who performed plays for our visitors. Jake Davies, Mary Brennan, Liam Higgins, James Fenton and Aaron McGarry performed a hilarious scene set in a classroom and Kelcie Fallon and Jacob Strickland entertained us with a role-play about an unusual family. All of the students worked hard with their teacher (and script-writer!), Miss Radinez, and they really impressed us with their confident use of French. A final thank you must go to our judges, Miss Radinez and Miss Madden.
