Year 10 Boys Football success at B.C.F.C. training ground - 7 May 2014

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the Year 10 Football Team were successful in beating Turves Green Boys School on Wednesday 7 May to be crowned District Cup Winners 2014.

The first half was a closely fought affair between two sides quite capable of beating each other on their day.  Turves Green Boys School were throwing down the gauntlet with well earned possession in the midfield throughout a tense period of play.  The Aquinas boys however were rock solid in defence and the tenacious efforts of players such as Daniel Kennedy, Dalmar Morrison and Ethan Skinner applied constant pressure to ensure a lack of flow to the opposition.

The superior defence by the goliath's of year 10 football Kyle Carew, Reece Lothian, Diallokai Hylton, Jake Parton and Aaron Villanueva did not allow Turves Green Boys to settle in front of the 18 yard box resulting in a relatively easy half for Josh Kesici in goal.

With a confidence that has been displayed all season the Aquinas midfield starting to build significant momentum with some very slick passing in midfield and out wide ably lead by James Kelly (C), Aidan Doherty, Macauley Rochford and Matthew Mervyn. This resulted in Aquinas going up 2 - 0 by half time.

One magic moment was Aidan Doherty's quick skilful turn to lose his defender followed by a sublime pinpoint 25 yard shot appreciated from all on the touchline.

Super sub Montel Gordon came on to inflict further frustration particularly in defence.

With an increasingly dominate performance it was apparent that it would be Aquinas' day although full credit to Turves Green Boys for pushing the Aquinas defence up to the last minute scoring a late consolation goal. Two wonderful saves had to be made from Josh in the last ten minutes to round off a great team performance.

Well done lads. Last four in the West Midlands Cup and District Cup winners 2014.  What a season!
