Lourdes Pilgrimage June 2012

This June, students from St Thomas Aquinas School took part for the first time in the Birmingham pilgrimage to Lourdes, in the south of France. It was a privilege to be able to visit this special place with our Year 12 students, Mary Sandilands and Katie Farrell. During our stay we celebrated Mass with all pilgrims every morning, assisted with the care of the sick and vulnerable and took part in the Marian procession each night. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and truly rewarding experience. A personal highlight of mine was being able to work in the famous baths, which are renowned for their healing effect on certain ailments and certain disabilities.

This was my fourth visit to Lourdes and it was a great experience to meet up with old friends and acquaintances in this remarkable town. To worship alongside a community of people, have fellowship and learn more about our faith together was an experience that will live long in our memories. Here's to the start of many more Aquinas pilgrimages!
