Year 10 Enterprise & IAG Days 2011

Monday 4 July was Year 10 Enterprise Catwalk Challenge Day. Students in Year 10 arrived at school ready to embark on a day based on The Apprentice. The aim of the day was to work as a team. Each team - 25 in all - formed a small company and created logos, business plans and business cards. Each business was a fashion outfit and accessory manufacturer. The students put together an outfit with accessories for their Catwalk model who performed in the fashion show. Prizes were awarded for Best Business Plan, Best Outfit and Best Catwalk. A great day was had by all and a huge thank you to Mrs Bayliss, Mr Rees and Mr Bond for their help but above all to Allison Sadler from The People Shop in Kings Heath for her expertise. The winning house was Newman - with Trooper first and Something Urban second. Romero and Bosco were joint second. Best Model was Conal Brady in Bosco and Best Outfit was won by Team Supreem (Romero).

On Thursday 7 July, each student had a 15 minute practice interview in the Sixth Form common room to prepare them for the future. The interviewers were business people from the local community. The interviewers were really impressed with our students and the students had their first experience of the rollercoaster of emotions associated with applying for a job.

The rest of the day consisted of sessions which prepared our Year 10 students for Work Experience and included role-playing potential problems, taking a health and safety test and setting targets for the next two weeks. A big thank you to all the volunteer interviewers and to all the Year 10 subject teachers who ran the sessions.

The whole day went really well and our Year 10s now leave us for eight days of new challenges and opportunities before returning on Thursday 21st July to report back on their experiences. Thank you to the amazing Miss Connolly for her tireless work in coordinating the work placements and all the form tutors for supporting our students in their search for a workplace.
