Industrial Action Update - 30 June 2011

Dear Parents

Further to my letter to you of 22 June I am now writing to inform you that school will be closed to students tomorrow. As you know, there is a major national strike concerning pension arrangements involving a number of unions including the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

Having looked closely at the timetables of teachers involved in the strike it is clear that there would be huge disruption to students' education tomorrow.  I have also been provisionally informed that members of UNISON will be on strike so there will be no catering provision at all. In these circumstances it is impossible for me to guarantee the health and safety of the school community.  Reluctantly, therefore, I have taken the decision to close the school to students tomorrow.

The only students who must attend tomorrow is Mrs Statham's Year 10 French group who are involved in a controlled assessment oral exercise.  They know the time of their oral and should attend as required in full school uniform. The Rome party led Mr Toal will depart as planned.

Let us all hope that the issues causing this dispute can be resolved as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely

Jim Foley
