The busiest public building in Birmingham just got busier !

On Tuesday, I accompanied ten Year 6 pupils and their parents to Central Library, for the sixth and last of their "Keeping Up With the Children" sessions. We toured every floor of the Library, and discovered so many things of interest. Local maps from the beginning of Birmingham to the present day were especially fascinating, so too was the chance to witness reseachers uncovering genealogical information before our eyes. We also saw: the archives of rare and precious material, accessed by an ornate wrought iron staircase, preserved from the original Victorian Birmingham Reference Library; the music library; Business Insight, a top class business library with access to up to the minute business databases - and so much more! Most important for the pupils was Centre for the Child where we were able to handle some of the most exciting childrenís and teenage books, many of them intricate pop-ups with sound. CFC is open to all young people and offers all sorts of information and support all year round, and exciting events during the holidays.

Well done to the pupils and parents who have participated in the six week course. I think they would say, like me, that itís been fun!
