Birmingham Cup Final 2011 Winners

Congratulations to our victorious Year 11 football team who beat St John Wall Catholic School 4 - 2 to win the Birmingham Cup Final on Tuesday at Solihull Moors F.C.

There was a great atmosphere and build up to the game and the occasion certainly did not disappoint.

St John Wall went into the lead in the first half after a strong start from Aquinas which stunned the St Thomas Aquinas supporters. However just before half time Aquinas scored to equalise leaving the game perfectly poised for what was to become a tense second half.

Both sides after the break created numerous opportunities aiming to take a firm grip of the game. Aquinas started to bring on all their substitutes providing 'fresh legs' and in what was a hard fought game, this tipped the advantage towards Aquinas's favour.

A late flurry of goals made for an outstanding climax to the game with Aquinas creating more chances and superior possession in the closing minutes. With some outstanding build up play Aquinas made the most of the space that they created and scored two superb goals to entertain the by then ecstatic crowd to seal the game.

A special mention must be made to the wonderful support the boys had from many of our students and parents that travelled to see the game in Solihull and gave such outstanding encouragement throughout the game always lifting the players at the right time. It was also a real pleasure to see Mr Adams come and support the boys in their last game. Mr Adams has been their manager for five years and it was a fine gesture from the boys to present Mr Adams with a gift at the end of the game in thanks for all his hard work over the years.

The following boys can be very proud of their achievements in their very last game for the school. Well done lads!

Wimbledon comes to Aquinas!

Recently our Core P.E. groups have been trying out our new short tennis equipment in lessons with the aim of improving their tennis skills in time for the summer and of course Wimbledon!

The Physical Education Faculty are now working alongside Kings Norton Tennis club and using their excellent facilities not only in P.E. lessons but in extra-curricular programmes looking for the future sporting stars of tomorrow.
