Newman House Mass

Newman House celebrated its very first House Mass on Thursday morning. It was a spiritual and moving occasion which brought all form groups together with their form tutors and other members of the school community.

The theme of the Mass was two-fold. We celebrated Blessed John Henry Newman, our House patron, and we also celebrated the theme of discipleship.

Every form group took an active part in the Mass, including the opening procession, readings and the very moving Reflection. Each form prepared a heart which represented what John Newman stood for - ‘Heart unto Heart'.

We tried to adopt a ‘Soli House' feel to our Mass and James Norton, with Kieran Snowe, prepared a fitting Drama to represent our Gospel. It was a comical piece about being proud about being Catholic. Our Communion reflection was used as a moment to think about our presence with God. During the reflection, Sophie Field sang a lovely song which was supported by Tom McCann on the guitar.

A lot of hard work, planning and rehearsing preceded the Mass. Special thanks goes to Father Stefan, all those who took part in the Mass and to the form tutors. Well done to Mr Weekes, the choir, Mr Mobbs and to our Lay Chaplain, Anne-Marie Tibbits.

Mr Foley expressed how impressed he was with the students of Newman House. As Head of Newman House, I am so proud of the manner in which all students conducted themselves. Once again, the students proved that Newman House is a very special house to be part of!
