Year 10 Enterprise & IAG Days 2010

Monday 5 July was Year 10 Enterprise Day. Students in Year 10 arrived at school dressed in ‘smart' business clothes and certainly impressed us with how great they looked. The aim of the day was to work as a team. Each team - 24 in all - formed a small company and created logos, business plans and business cards. Each business was a high-end fashion accessory manufacturer. The students then put together an outfit with accessories for their Catwalk model, who performed in the fashion show. Prizes were awarded for Best Business Plan, Most Profit and Best Catwalk. A great day was had by all and a huge thank you goes to Lyn Shields and her team from BXL for running the day.

On Tuesday 6 July each student had a 20 minute mock-interview in the sixth form common room to prepare them for the future. The interviewers were business people from the local community. They were really impressed with our students who had their first experience of the rollercoaster of emotions associated with applying for a job.

The rest of the day consisted of sessions which prepared our Year 10 students for Work Experience and included role-playing potential problems, taking a health and safety test and setting targets for the next two weeks. A big thank you, again, goes to Lyn from BXL, all the volunteer interviewers and all the Year 10 subject teachers who ran the sessions.

The whole day went really well and Year 10 now leave us for a fortnight of new challenges and opportunities before returning on Thursday 22 July to report on their experiences. Thank you to the amazing Miss Connolly for her tireless work in coordinating the work placements and the Year 10 team for supporting our students in their search for a workplace.
