Tuesday Letter - Issue 40

DEAR PARENTS

A PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF FAITH

This is our faith.  This is the faith of the Church.  We are proud to profess it, in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Amen.

A PRAYER FOR THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
Almighty God, as we come to the end of our school year we thank you for all the blessings we have received and we ask for forgiveness for our faults and failings.  We give thanks to you all who are leaving our school.  Guard them and guide them in the future.  May we all enjoy a well earned rest safe in your loving care.  Amen.

WHOLE SCHOOL MASS THIS MORNING

This morning we gathered in the Sports Hall as a whole school community to thank God for the many blessings of this school year and for the fact that it has come to an end!  There have been countless achievements in our Golden Jubilee Year and now we look forward to our well earned summer holiday.  Fr Jan was not with us this morning as he is in Rio de Janeiro with three of our students (Caroline Fahy, Orla Lenehan and Christine Lyttle) and many thousands of young people from all over the world celebrating World Youth Day with Pope Francis.  A big thank you to Fr Gary from Our Lady and St Rose for celebrating the Mass with us.  I am sure it will have been a really good occasion.

SPORTS AWARDS CEREMONY

Following break the whole school returned to the Sports Hall for another of our great traditions in school - our Sports Awards Ceremony in which we recognise the countless different achievements of our many talented athletes in various individual and team sports.  Thank you to Mr Houston and the PE Faculty for preparing it all but also for their remarkable work throughout the year.  And thank you also to Mr Docherty, Chair of Governors for presenting the awards.  I can now exclusively reveal that the Sports Day winners 2013 are Teresa House! Well done to them for retaining their trophy from last year.  And well done everyone else for participating in a great day.  Please visit the website www.stacs.org for a full report.

AND THEN FOR SOMETHING QUITE REMARKABLE!

At the end of the Sports Awards Ceremony and my remarks wishing everyone a wonderful summer holiday something astonishing happened in the Sports Hall.  Do ask your son or daughter for the details because I cannot really do it justice here!  Once again, check the website for further information www.stacs.org

HOUSE CHAMPIONS 2012 - 2013 - IT'S ROMERO HOUSE AGAIN!

Congratulations to Romero House for being House Champions 2012 - 2013.  They have reclaimed the title they first won in 2011 having conceded it to Martin House last year.  Well done to Mr Flood, his tutor team and the whole house on a great achievement.  Who will knock them off their perch in 2013-2014?  Watch this space.

THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK TO STAFF LEAVING US TODAY

Today we say goodbye to some excellent colleagues some of whom have been with us a relatively short time and others much longer.

Miss Sharon Fletcher
Sharon, Head of ICT and Business for the past three years has already left us to join St Augustine's, Redditch as Assistant Headteacher.

Mr Marc Fellows

Marc has also left us to join a school in Wales as ICT Manager.

Mrs Liz Munro
Liz leaves us during the summer after 8 years supporting us in attendance, The Manion Centre and most recently the Billile Jayne Centre.  She is leaving to enjoy a well earned retirement.

Miss Amanda Swain

Amanda leaves us during the summer after 6 years as our Senior Science Technician to take up a new post at King Edward's, Stourbridge.

Miss Nazma Aktar
Nazma leaves today after 3 years as a teacher of Science to take up a new post at Great Barr School.

Mr Tom Holt
Tom leaves us today after 2 years first as Cover Supervisor and this year as a GTP PE teacher.  Tom is taking up a new post in September as a PE teacher in a school in Dagenham.  Hopefully, his celebrated skills as a staff dance teacher will also come in useful there!

We wish Sharon, Marc, Liz, Amanda, Michael, Nazma and Tom every success and happiness in their future lives.

MRS MARIAN YATES
Legend is an overused term these days but it is entirely appropriate for Marian who completes 28 years at St Thomas Aquinas  and 33 years in teaching today.  Throughout all of that time Marian has been an inspirational teacher of PE to thousands of students and likewise her passion for Dance has influenced countless of them over the years.  Even in her final weeks in school Marian was responsible for Sports Day hot on the heels of her triumph with Bugsy Malone.  We thank her for her outstanding service and wish her a very happy and well earned retirement in the future.  Thank you Marian.

MISS SARAH LAY
Another outstanding PE teacher leaves us today.  Sarah joined our school from Hall Green School in 2000 and for the past 13 years has been a fantastic teacher, colleague and person to work with.  From day one Sarah's passion for PE was very clear and it's great that she will now have the opportunity to share her first love with several of our feeder primary schools.  Sarah has fulfilled many roles in school and was deservedly promoted to the SLT as Assistant Headteacher in 2009.  In everything she does she is a consummate professional but even more importantly she is a fantastic person.  The good news is that we will still see a great deal of Sarah in the future but we thank her today for all she has done for our school.  Thank you Sarah.

STAFFING IN SEPTEMBER

I am delighted to tell you that we are fully staffed in September and we have some fantastic new colleagues joining us then.  Yesterday we appointed a new ICT Strategic Manager and a new Administrative Assistant.  I shall introduce them all in the first Friday Letter in September.

WHAT A YEAR!  HAVE A GREAT SUMMER

Every year is action packed right to the very end but this year, our Golden Jubilee Year, really has been extra special.  From the School Mission in January to our incredible Open Day on 6 July to Bugsy Malone it has been a whirlwind but it has also been a year of great achievement.  Thank you to our fantastic staff for the work they have done, much of it above and beyond the call of duty.  And well done too to our students the vast majority of whom are a credit to themselves, their families and their school .  As always, I thank all our parents for your fantastic support and I wish you all a lovely summer holiday.  See you in September!

Yours sincerely

JIM FOLEY
