Poetry Cafe at Birmingham University

On Tuesday 16th June ten of our students visited Birmingham University with Mrs Ulmkalns to participate in a ‘Poetry Café’. The trip was organised by the Education Faculty at the University who ran a competition for students in Birmingham to write a poem called ‘The English Lesson.’

The students who went to the café had all written poems which had then been shortlisted as potential winners and they were invited to the café/workshop where they enjoyed a wonderful lunch and got to meet the Birmingham Poet Laureate, Chris Morgan.

Our students wrote some amazing poetry and the afternoon was topped off with the students presenting their work to everyone present. Marcus Hough in 7PUL read out his poem magnificently to rapturous applause from the audience.

Our budding poets were: Sam Barnacle, Marcus Hough, Jacob O’Rourke

and James Tierney of 7PUL and Faye Adams 9TCA, Philip Cadogan 9CJO, Kieran Haynes 9TCA, Sam Horton 9MYA and Orla Lenehan 9JMC.
