Citizens UK Listening Campaign - 19 June 2013

Yesterday I accompanied ten student leaders to a Citizens UK event in preparation for a listening campaign being launched in school next week. Citizens UK brings together faith communities, schools and charities from across Birmingham to unlock the power of active citizenship within the city. During the course of the morning, students engaged with other communities from Birmingham and shared some very personal and inspirational testimonies about issues close to them. They were excellent ambassadors of the school and I was impressed by their participation and engagement throughout the session - well done to Dennis Abioye, Jake Breen, Krystal Burton, Eilish Hardy, Shaun Hunter, Theresa Lenehan, Daniel Plant, Merlin Valiyaparambil, Rachel Wain and Olivia Young. Thank you also to Mr Nolan for driving the minibus.

From Monday next week, these student leaders will be running a two week listening campaign in school to identify the issues which young people are concerned about and how they would like to see things improved in their city. The issues which are identified from the listening campaign will then be taken to a city wide assembly later this year and voted upon. The assembly will then plan action to address these issues. This is a good opportunity for students of St Thomas Aquinas to have their voices heard on issues which affect them and I would encourage all students to share their experiences with the student leaders who will be visiting form groups over the next two weeks.
