USA Olympic Team Visit

On Thursday 19th July Mr Perry and Mrs Taylor took me and 13 other Year 10 students to Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr to see the American Olympic team train.

When arriving, there was no time to lose. We all got stuck into some activities straight away. The boys did a 100m relay race along with many others to try and break the world record of ‘most people taking part in a relay'. Shortly after they had a relay race in teams destroying all of the primary school kids (which they seemed to be very happy about). Followed by the privilege of practising the javelin with the USA Olympic Javelin thrower Craig Kinsley and were filmed by Sky Sports and BBC News.

The girls took part in dance activities with the group ‘Steps 8' who were on the Sky series ‘Got to Dance' learning hip hop routines and finishing with a dance off against boys from other schools, which we obviously won.

Shortly after the activities we all had a chance to have autographs and take photos with the members of the USA Olympic team. But to also understand what each athlete was taking part in for the Olympic Games when we were given a talk from the athletes.

The whole day was amazing and very enjoyable. The atmosphere throughout the day was great and was definitely an experience that all of us who went will never forget!

Thank you to Mr Perry and Mrs Taylor for a wonderful day and for giving is the chance to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity!
