STACS took an impressive half time lead thanks to top work from Rusarn Peters (once again) and Ken Azuro, striking a partnership that would put fear into the heart of any defence out there! The fourth period proved too much for St John Wall School as high levels of fitness and accurate shooting saw off the opposition in comfortable style, adding more silverware to the already brimming sports trophy cabinet. The team were ably led by John Duru who, like Rusarn Peters, is a City of Birmingham player and we hope in the future that they will go on to achieve even greater things. They should be extremely proud of their achievements because winning the City of Birmingham Cup two years in a row is an unprecedented feat.Final score: STACS 49 - 39 St John Wall School The Team: John Duru (Captain) Mr Holt
Year 10 Boys City of Birmingham League Cup Basketball Champions! - 26th April 2012The Year 10 boys' basketball team rounded off their season in impressive style on Thursday, beating Kings Norton in the much anticipated City of Birmingham League Cup Final. It was a cagey affair to begin with as Kings Norton probed the defence of STACS, finding baskets hard to come by, being forced to shoot from further out on many occasions. Impressive forward play from STACS, particularly from Rusarn Peters who scored 30 points and Jake Steenson showing quality in all areas of the court, was enough to edge the score in favour of STACS as the third period came to an end. The high levels of fitness, developed by the coach, Mr. Smyllie through an intense training programme, proved too much for Kings Norton as STACS romped home in style in the 4th period, sealing a historic victory for the boys, after losing to this side earlier on in the year. Revenge is sweet ... but silverware is sweeter.Final score: STACS 37 - 29 Kings Norton The Team: Liam Daly Mr Holt |
