Open Evening 2009

OpenEvening2009

Every day of the year, the pupils and staff of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School embody the school’s mission statement (Christ is the centre of our school community where we live, love and learn together) but it is on Open Evening where this is shown to the wider public.

The parents and children, who visited our school last night, were treated to a huge number of exciting and interactive activities throughout the school. In Science, the children were using microscopes and making exploding volcanoes and in Technology they were making keyrings, eating popcorn and using the ever popular chocolate fountain. The excitement continued in Maths where they were completing a variety of exciting logical challenges. The all new gym proved to be one of the most popular attractions with the children trying out the aerobics, keep fit and boxing equipment.

The main attraction for our visiting parents and children was taking place in the hall; it was an extravaganza of music, singing and dances which showed off the huge wealth of talent possessed by our pupils. Mr Foley, the headteacher, outlined the reasons why St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is the perfect school for the children present. The presentation included music, song and dance from many of our pupils including Aidan Davis the Britain's Got Talent finalist.

The pupils of St Thomas Aquinas were a credit to the school. They worked tirelessly throughout the evening, guiding the parents and children around the school as well as helping out in each of the faculty areas. We had clowns in Drama, gym instructors in PE and even waiters in French. What a fantastic evening!

'Clowning Around'
Students were trying out their circus skills – learning to plate spin and to juggle!

There were also some fantastic ‘comedy mime’ performances – looking at exaggerated action and slapstick.

They clearly enjoyed themselves!

Orchestra & Drum Workshop

The music department was particularly busy. In M1, pupils were given the opportunity to conduct an orchestra using the Wii Music game.

In M2, pupils and parents enjoyed listening to a rehearsal of St Thomas Aquinas pupils learning a Drum Workshop piece. Ray Prince led the group and also invited some primary school pupils to join in with the rehearsal.

Looks like fun, doesn’t it?
