| Punctuality to School - 7 September 2009 |
|
Dear Parents
PUNCTUALITY TO SCHOOL - A VITAL ISSUE I am writing a special letter at the beginning of the school year to draw your attention to an issue that we must address for a significant minority of pupils. We are adopting new procedures regarding lateness to school and everyone needs to understand them.
1) From tomorrow morning, Tuesday 8 September and every morning the Popes Lane gates will be locked at precisely 8.40 am. The only way into school after 8.40 am will be via the main entrance.
2) Pupils who are late will be met at Reception by Mrs Killingworth and subsequently, depending on the time, will be interviewed by either Mrs Bridgman or Miss Connolly.
3) Pupils who are late will be detained by their form tutor for 10 minutes after school on the same day. Pupils who are late twice in a week will be detained by their head of year for 20 minutes on the same day. Pupils late three times in a week will be in a one hour detention on a Friday with senior staff.
4) Please note that parents whose children are detained for longer than 10 minutes will receive a text message or phone call on the same day.
5) In order to ensure the most effective possible communication it is essential we have up to date mobile phone numbers. Please return the attached slip as soon as possible if your mobile numbers have changed.
6) If your child is late due to an unforeseen event at home please give them a note explaining the circumstances.
7) Year 7 pupils will not be placed in detention for being late to school without notice being given. In their case the new detention system will not begin until after the February half term.
Thank you to parents in anticipation of your support. I am sure that you agree punctuality is vital for your children's education and to enhance their future life chances. If you have any queries please contact Miss Lay, Assistant Headteacher who is leading our drive on this vital issue.
Yours sincerely
