| St Thomas Aquinas School encourages Local Primaries to 'Get Set for Olympic Celebrations' |

 OLYMPIC GLORY: St. Thomas Aquinas School get set for Olympic fun with local primaries. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School has entered in to the Olympic spirit by holding its own athletic tournament for 300 pupils from local primary schools. The event, which took place at Hadley Stadium, invited Year 5 children to compete as Olympic countries including USA, Jamaica and China; as host school, St. Thomas Aquinas were proud to be Team GB!Children from St. Peter's, St. James, St. John Fisher, St. Edward's, St. Brigid's, St. Joseph's, St. Columba's and Our Lady & St. Rose Of Lima competed in 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump and throwing events to win medals. It was a close competition but the team from St. James Catholic Primary School (representing Canada) won three gold, two silvers and one bronze medal to be named the Year 5 Olympic Champions. Alongside the medals and trophies awarded for success in the track and field events, certificates were presented to recognise the other elements crucial to the teams' enjoyment and success. Awards for Best Banner, Best Supporters, Most Determined Team, Loudest Supporters and a Fair Play were shared amongst the schools. A special award for Effort and Enthusiasm was also presented to Martin McDonagh from Our Lady & St. Rose of Lima Catholic Primary School for his heroics on the track. Jim Foley, Headteacher at St. Thomas Aquinas commented: "It has been a fantastic day and the children have delivered some really outstanding performances. I have been especially impressed by the support and encouragement they have given one another. It has created a real Olympic ‘buzz' around our schools and hopefully this will grow as we approach the Games this summer. Congratulations to all who took part." Hollie Parrish
