About the FacultyReligious Education in a Catholic School is very much the centre of the curriculum and the Religious Education Faculty sees itself as very much at the heart of the school community at St. Thomas Aquinas. The Team comprises 8 specialist teachers, and is a mixture of youth and experience, some teachers having over 20 years experience at St Thomas Aquinas while others are relatively new to the profession. All pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 follow a programme of Religious Education.Key Stage 3 (Years 7-8)At Key Stage 3 the syllabus is loosely based on 'The Way - The Truth and The Life' series. Key Stage 4 (Years 9-11)At Key Stage 4 students are entered for GCSE with the WJEC board. Students study and are examined on different aspects of the Roman Catholic tradition. Key Stage 5 (Post-16)At Post-16 Religious Studies has become one of the most popular choices for A-Level with students following a course in philosophy of Religion and Ethics. Students also follow a general R.E. course at Post-16 leading to the National Open College Network Certificate at Level 1,2 or 3. |
