About the Faculty
The Modern Foreign Languages Faculty is situated on the second floor of the main building. There are four specialist rooms, equipped with tape recorders, overhead projectors and Power Point projectors. At both Key Stages 3 and 4 ICT is used in many lessons to enhance pupil learning both within and outside the classroom. Key Stage 3 (Years 7-8)During Year 7 all pupils follow “Metro 1” and are taught in form groups. At the end of Year 7 pupils are placed into broad bands of ability. In Year 8 pupils follow the same core content in “Metro 2”, although there are differentiated text and workgroups to suit higher and foundation pupils. There is the possibility for pupils to be moved either up or down. Key Stage 4 (Years 9-11)In Years 9, 10 and 11 pupils in Population S must study a modern foreign language to GCSE level. Pupils in Population T may choose to study a modern foreign language. There is also the facility for pupils to study either French or German or both languages. Pupils may begin German in Year 9 as a GCSE course. We follow the new WJEC GCSE course. Key Stage 5 (Post-16)We offer both French and German at AS and A2 level. We follow the revised WJEC at AS Level. Post-16 students are encouraged to attend conferences each year at Aston University or Birmingham University for intensive practice in reading, listening, speaking and writing. There is also the possibility of doing a work placement abroad in Year 12. |
